Thyroid Hormone Levels

As I reviewed more research on thyroid disorders I discovered gaps in the knowledge about thyroid disorders. Normally the dosage of thyroxin is based on TSH values.  From what I can tell, the dosage of thyroxin, lab values and quality of life are not correlated. Thus all the effort to calibrate the dosage of thyroxin to TSH levels appears to be in vain. This may explain the widespread dissatisfaction with treatment reported on numerous patient on-line web sites.

The information about the lack of connection between treatment with thyroxin, lab tests and outcomes needs to be widely communicated to both patients and the medical profession.

Thyroid hormone tests can be ordered in the US through user pay labs in 2000 locations throughout the US (only) through Medlabs.
They will provide a wide variety of less commonly ordered tests as well as the usual thyroid hormone tests.  The tests available include:
  • Reverse T3
  • T3 Free
  • T4 Free
  • T7 (Thyroid Profile)
  • Thyroid AB (Anti-Thyroid AB)
  • Thyroid Peroxidase AB (TPO)
  • Thyroid Profile (T4/TSH)
  • Thyroid Stim Immuno (TSI)
  • TSH
  •
